Invitation to Submit an Abstract

On behalf of the Scientific Advisory Committee, we invite you to submit abstracts for consideration for the 2019 Victorian Allied Health Research Conference (VAHRC) program, either as an oral presentation or electronic poster presentation. The conference theme is “Allied Health: Driving Change” and aims to optimise quality and therapy outcomes through the translation of research into best clinical practice and innovative service delivery.

The Allied Health Research conference themes include:

Presentation Types

Oral Presentation

Oral presentations will be allocated 12 minutes for each presentation and five minutes question time.  Oral presentations will be assigned to matching themes for the concurrent sessions in the conference program.

Research Higher Degree Symposium

Allied health students undertaking Masters, PhD and Doctoral degrees are encouraged to submit an abstract to present their work during the concurrent sessions. Presentations will be three minutes with question time allocated. Please include the student as the lead investigator and supervisors.

ePoster – Lightning talk

Electronic posters will be prepared in a one page PowerPoint and displayed on monitors at the conference. Authors will have the opportunity to provide a three minute oral presentation to accompany the poster). ePosters will also be available to view on the conference website on the day.

How to Submit

Submit the text of your 250 word abstract in the field provided as part of the Abstract Submission Process through the Presentation Portal by 6.00pm Thursday 22nd November 2018. Please use Times New Roman 12-point font. Left-justify all text and use single line spacing.  No references required.  The body of the abstract should be no more than 250 words, with no more than 4 presenting authors and contain separate headings for:

  • Title:
  • Aim:
  • Method:
  • Results:
  • Significance of the findings to allied health:

The receipt of submissions will be acknowledged by an automatic email.  All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified by 7th December 2018.

Review Process

All submissions will be reviewed and assessed by the Scientific Advisory Committee for quality and applicability to the themes identified above. The committee will assign oral presentations and ePoster presentations.

Instructions regarding the format of oral presentations and ePosters will be sent to successful applicants.

Presenters Registration

All presenters will be required to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs where required.

Audiovisual Equipment

Each session room will be equipped for the presentation of PowerPoint slides and include a data projector, computer with external speakers, lectern and microphone.

Presentation Files

Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the meeting on a memory stick, where an audiovisual technician will load your presentation.

Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.

All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.
